Day 40 April 24, 2020
There will be no references to Jesus and his 40 days in the desert being pestered by the Prince of Darkness.
Today's post, the 40th post thus far. It is very simple. It is this picture's mundane simplicity which defines the gravity of the situation. Any other day it is just a picture of some people playing volleyball and smoking some weed. Jeez, the smell of pot permeated the air.
This is a crowd of carefree young people playing volleyball at Bishop park in Southeast Houston (04-23-2020). They are not observing the concept of social distancing. Every afternoon at about this time, 7:30 PM. this sandy volleyball court is filled with people, none of whom are sporting any kind of "protective" masks.
Today a Harris County Sheriff's unit pulled up in the parking lot and though his loudspeaker ordered the crowd off of the benches, yes the benches covered in yellow Caution tape. I am not going to ask the obvious question, "What is wrong with people?" But I guess I just did.Or the other obvious statement, "Had the deputy exited his vehicle, he would have smelled the weed!".
It makes you wonder.
Now that state officials have decided to open Texas for business, things will get worse. And these very same people will say two things. 1.) We have rights! There is a Constitution that says we have rights! and 2.) The government did not do enough to protect us.
Both of these statements are true. However, I would like to tell these very people, "When you are sick and on your deathbed, hogging up a ventilator from someone who really needs it, read The Constitution and see what that does for you."
