Day 11 March 26, 2020 “Memorial Drive Revisited”
Memorial Drive looking east…
Today as I was out there in the empty morning streets I was hit with the thought that this could get old real quick. How many pictures can I take of the empty streets? It was then I realized that there is a certain beauty in the quiet stillness of the morning. These mornings are like the weekend mornings when there is little or no traffic. However, I do not think I would stand in the middle of the street to take pictures of normal emptiness on a normal weekend. When mentioning these past 10 days, the word "normal" should not be in the same sentence.
That being said, I find the rush of trying to beat the sunrise coming from behind the buildings an exhilaration that will soon be lost to history, hopefully. This is something unique to everyone’s experience. It is easy to find one’s self gasping for air while trying to stay afloat in the waters of uncertainty - an uncertainty fueled by our technology. What if this had happened 30 years ago when our only source of news was the radio, television, newspapers and the telephone?
Once again I found myself on Memorial Drive, just outside of the construction barrels (not pictured). Those guys are still working. Then I went to the over photographed view of the Sabine Street Bridge and photographed it. There was a news crew doing, in news-speak what is called a stand-up or live shot. Does anyone recognize the station? I would like to send them a picture.
Hopefully this weekend will bring with it new challenges to find that perfect spot to shoot some more desolation.
There is the empty Houston Tunnel System again.
