Day 12 March 27, 2020 “Mos Eisley Space Port”

METRO-4989.jpg

This is the 12th day that the world finds itself unsure of where it is and frightened of where it is going. This is the second Friday of Social Distancing and the first Friday of the Stay-at-Home initiative. (I am hesitant to call it an “order”, at least not yet).

There is something unique about the number 12 - 12 months, 12 signs of the Zodiac, 12 days of Christmas, the 12 Labors of Hercules, 12 Stations of the Cross and so on and so on. Did you know that on the Loteria Mexicana game board(s) there are 12 human figures? This includes counting the Diablito.

I wouldn’t call the downtown streets a beehive of activity in the morning, at least not like the throngs I have seen in pictures of New York City. But there is a noticeable emptiness.

The homeless have Main Street to themselves 24-7 now.

These pictures were shot on Main St. Square. Yes, that is the official name of the section of Main St. between the 900 and 1100 blocks. It was built for the METRO Rail and it was touted as the new centerpiece for downtown Houston - shops, cafes, musicians and mimes. It never became that. The fountains rarely work! See! You can’t see them!

In one of the pictures, HPD was answering a trespassing call at the CVS. On the other side of the street (not pictured) a guy was yelling, at the top of his lungs, at the Corner Bakery security guard about alternate realities.

If Mos Eisley Space-Port was ever to open a Houston location, it would most assuredly be located here.

The trains were still running, though. And once again, I was able to park inside some construction barrels while I shot my pictures.
